There aren't any stunning views but the forest is very peaceful and quiet. We only saw one other person on a Saturday on Labor Day weekend. The trail is an old logging road so it's wide and gravelly. It was a moderate hike, with some steep sections but ultimately not that hard.

This is a great hike. It isn't technically difficult at all, more like a city park trail with a good elevation rise back to the car. The Redwoods are amazing. The creek is gorgeous. Entire path is trees and trees and trees.

It did at one point but the trees have taken over, which is ok! Short and to the point, this trail was an easy one and if you take the effort to drive up to the grove, you may as well walk the whole loop. Tons of beautiful trees and not a lot of people, as we went later in the afternoon when visitors were few and the light was perfect.
My GPS said this was 11 miles. I thoroughly enjoyed this trail. Beautiful redwoods and ferns along the entire way, plus Mill creek is a nice spot for a break. Will definitely do this one again. Quick and easy, but good way to get a look at a bunch of redwoods. Weather was pleasant, trail was shady. Hiked in the late afternoon. Lighting amongst the towering redwoods was spectacular. Very few people there at that time. Gorgeous, shady, sublimely quiet hike.
We got on the trail around Early evening might be the best time to go. Our kids thought it felt like a fairy garden oh and our kids rocked this hike - ages 7 and 4. Number one favorite trail to take non hikers so they can still get a sense of walking through the majestic giant Redwoods. Pit toilets at parking. Views from Bald Hills Road are panoramic. Hike to Lyons Ranch is dirt road. The historic ranch buildings are being preserved to ponder what life was like for the many mixed race families before electricity, cars, plumbing.

Jerry and Gisela Rohde have already published two excellent travel guides to the area and their works are a delight to read.

Perhaps the single best feature of this book is that the authors actually limited themselves to describing only short and easy walks in the region. This is in sharp contrast to some of the other Mountaineers Press "Short Hikes" guides which have been known to include 22 mile hikes! Of the sixty-four hikes included in this book, twelve are less than a mile, and only seven exceed 5 miles. Literally anyone can find a walk suited to them among those listed in this book. This book has several other nice aspects as well. The Rohde's also provide graphic representations of the amount of elevation you can expect to gain or lose over the course of a hike.
