Feb 25, Andy Plonka rated it really liked it. This is one of Cleeve's Atephen Ramsey books. Like her Palmer-Jones series the solution to the muder is a bit untraditional which makes them a bit more interesting. This one gives a glimpse at small town politics and amateur theater productions.
I am starting to like Inspector Ramsey. At least in this book he didn't dwell too much on his ex-wife and their troubles. The story line was good along with the mystery to be solved. It was suspenseful and not too gruesome. You could concentrate on solving the mystery instead of a lot of blood and gore. I have read one of the George and Molly books that Ms. Their books seem to lean toward educating me about birds and birding. I prefer just a good mystery to solve along with I am starting to like Inspector Ramsey.
I prefer just a good mystery to solve along with a cast of characters that I like. If I am educated subtlety, that okay I really enjoyed this book, lots of twists, turns and suspence. I did wonder if a romance would happen for Steve Ramsey.
I am working my way through this series, I am looking forward to the next book. Thank you Ann Cleeves. Dec 05, rebecca O. Inspector Ramsey series is the second series by Ann Cleeves. Clearly, she has improved as a writer. I will not bother with her first series. While the inspector Ramsey books have improved, he creates no excitement and seems underdeveloped as a character.
Perhaps Cleeves is just better at developing female characters because the Vera Stanhope series is great. Stanhope is so well developed and you really like her. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Ramsey gets the girl!
That was more unexpected than the murderer. Oct 13, Kay rated it really liked it.
Killjoy by Ann Cleeves
Always like an Ann Cleeves mystery. Mar 16, Doris Smith rated it liked it Shelves: Found some of the events predictable, but I enjoyed the setting of the book. Another great Inspector Ramsey Mystery Another great Inspector Ramsey Mystery with an unbeatable cast of characters and many disparate elements that come together in the end like the intricate parts of a watch but only after many twists and turns. I couldn't stop reading. A third suspicious death provides a tenuous link between all three and leads Inspector Ramsay to the Alternative Therapy Clinic.
Could one of the healers be a killer? When year old Marilyn Howe turns up on Inspector Ramsay's doorstep he has little choice but to invite her in, for Marilyn is convinced that her mother has disappeared. But when Ramsay returns the young girl to her home, on the isolated coastal community known as the Headland, they find Mrs Howe safe and well. Six months later, Ramsay has more or less forgotten the strange incident, busy as he is on the trail of a local child abductor.
Until he receives news that Mrs Howe has disappeared once more. Then a body is washed up on the beach, and he soon gets drawn into the strange relationships of the families living on the lonely Headland This is a strong, dark crime novel, distinguished by its intelligent, spiky characterisation. These are people whose actions are rooted deeply and plausibly in their own psychology. Cleeves is particularly good at showing the claustrophobia of enclosed lives. The Baby Snatcher was first published in Back in print Ann Cleeves's six murder mysteries featuring Inspector Stephen Ramsay were published in the s, and have become collectors items.
