Loren Weisman presents a ton of useful material, in a format that you can easily absorb, digest, and take action on. I like to use a highlighter, and really mark my books up when I read them. This is a thick, well-documented book that covers many important aspects of being an Indie musician in I recommend that you get both the paperback book and the audio book, so you can obtain the maximum benefit from this material.

Not to sound sacrilegious, but this book is literally the bible of how to get anywhere in the music industry. After I'm done reading this, I will read this again and again. There is literally THAT much information in this book. I even got the kindle digital copy when I'm on the road as a reference tool!! I cannot speak highly enough about this book, and you would be doing yourself a major disservice if you don't follow this guide.

You can start from any page and still get great messages but I am personally all about the marketing chapter and branding ideas. I began by watching Loren's videos on YouTube, which are very insightful and informative for the record, and I wanted to learn more.

This book covers many different angles of the business and has helped answer many questions I have with my business that I have started. Any young person who is interested in the music business or any business that will make them a star should be forced to read this book first to learn that it isn't all mansions, private planes and parties.

Some of the best advice is to don't bs your way into a situation and get as many details as possible. Don't get pulled in by the hype. Learn to identify the signs of a scammer some are actually quite subtle. Some of the advice is common sense, like put your best foot forward, check the contract or draw it up yourself, if you have a CD, make sure the song is actually filled out. Weisman gets into the nitty gritty part of the business side of the music industry and it can be a lot to take in, but it's all useful.
