What follows is a biased book review. I'm the proud husband of the author. When the procession concludes the anecdotes -both the sad and the hilarious-have melded together creating a triumphant celebration of life. I love the author and the book! One person found this helpful. Mary Lou Edwards has a snappy, entertaining way of writing. I latched on to her puns and was able to connect with all her stories even though I come from a very different background.

Look Back at Your Past But Don’t Stare

I have a great appreciation for Mary Lou's storytelling skills and unique style: A great laugh-out-loud read! This is a rare treat- am honest series of experiences that are as moving as they are hilarious. Mary Lou Edwards is a gem!

Have a good read. Edwards is an amazing storyteller--simple,direct and laugh-out-loud funny. Her essays are jam packed with spot-on details that made me feel like I was sitting at the kitchen table privy to a family meltdown. Most of native Chicagoans can remember characters described in this little treasure of a book.

Entertaining and a good read, Ms. Edwards puts the reader right in the room like a fly on the wall. I love Mary Lou's writing! It's so real and funny. She finds the humor in the every day familiar pieces of our lives, and communicates them in a way that makes the reader feel they are a part of the story. Other people who I've lent my copy to have told me that, no matter what their ethnic background, they connect and can relate her stories to their own experiences. Eagerly awaiting the next book! This collection is a cornucopia of stories that will rattle around in your brain long after you've closed the book.

From the Arizona desert, to the aisles of Toys 'R Us, to an inner city classroom, these poignant, heartfelt, and often hilarious stories reveal Mary Lou's unique perspective on life's experiences. Recently I had one of those days where my mind went on a trip down memory lane. I wish that I could say it was a pleasant trip. But then again too few to mention. Regrets, I think, are a way we say sorry to ourselves. It is hard though.

Life will be different but it does go on. The people around us may never forget the harm we have done and may even remind us of just how far we fell. But we got up. The Word says — Rejoice not against me, oh my enemies, for when I fall I shall arise.
