Real World Google SketchUp 7 - Mike Tadros - Google Книги
This is not the book you should buy to learn SketchUp. For that I recommend two others: This book extends your understanding of the power of the program. Starting out with setting up your keyboard shortcuts and workspace and carrying on through using templates, scripts, and extensions, Mike covers the groundwork very well.
For me, the core of the "real world" was dealing with site plans, importing CAD files, and building exteriors and interiors because that's part of my work. He also thoroughly goes through the creation and application of textures for the model, including how to build a model using a photograph, which is absolutely one of SketchUp's strengths. Although I don't see myself creating dynamic components anytime soon, the author's section on this topic is more in-depth and clear than any I've read.
Mike carefully takes us through creating animations, adding dimensions, preparing your model for presentation and printing. Finally, the videos on the bonus CD are terrific, and are teasers for his superb website, and its hours of SketchUp training.

I bought the book because I saw SketchUp mentioned several times in woodworking magazines. It seemed like a great way to generate detailed drawings of shop projects, and it is. However, there's almost no chance that anyone can just download the software and figure out how to get much out of it without some guidance. This book helps a new user get started without the aggravation that just muddling around would produce. Like most other books in the "Dummies" series, this one is very easy to read and use. The information is presented in bite-sized chunks, and each new concept is built on what has preceded it.
The tone is just right, I think; it's light without being condescending or cutsie, and it's authoritative without being pedantic. I particularly liked the way the author explained how to fix errors. SketchUp is somewhat deceptive; it's pretty easy to get a sort-of-good result, but it's also easy to wander into dead ends. The book describes a mistake, then explains how to erase it and what to do to get the result you were looking for. Even better, it explains how to avoid the mistake in the first place. It sounds like an obvious thing for a good instructional book to do, but it's surprisingly rare.
I think I got what I paid for-- and more. I wanted a good, basic instructional book, and this is it.
However, it's also a manual that explains how to get beyond the beginner's level as smoothly as possible. I recommend it very highly. I recently taught a Google Sketchup introductory class to my Woodworking group - after sampling some of the video tutorials Aidan has available I sought out and purchased the book that references them this book! I've found it invaluable as a reference and recommend it to anyone thinking about using Sketchup - it's well written, simply presented and provides ample guidance for the self-learner.
It also provided me with some good ideas on presentation when delivering a classroom session on the topic.
I plan to present several more classes in Sketchup with a focus on the woodworker and small project design. The book can be used as reference with little adaptation.
Sketchup is one of those programs that can be taken in small chunks for a beginner to get up and designing, or it can be explored in depth to produce some stunning presentations, integrated into an entire project plan with examples, production details, animation and movement, multiple perspectives and even cutlists for woodworkers using the Cutlist plugin.
Kudos to the conception and execution and to Aidan Chopra, both the writer of this guide and the Google Sketchup advocate. I'm learning Sketchup so I can use it for a project in a foundation art-design class. I want my students and myself to have a solid grounding in the basics so we can use the program in more expressive ways.

This book provides a clearly written, step by step guide for beginning users or for more experienced users who want to improve their skills. There are plenty of simple examples and enough more complex constructions to whet your appetite if you're interested in going further. It's like having a very helpful person right at your side who can give you a solid grounding in the basics. I found Sketchup really frustrating when I was just exploring it by myself, because I was bringing too many assumptions from my past drawing experience.
This book helped me understand how and why Sketchup works the way it does. It's helping me to "think" in Sketchup more easily. And for me, I really appreciate having a written text so that I can try things on the screen and then be able to easily check the text for tips or further instructions. It's just less stressful than having to constantly pause a video. Plus, having page references is an easier way to refresh my memory than searching for an online tutorial and then finding the right section. I'm going to recommend it to my students.
One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. I have been using SketchUp Pro for about 3 years mainly for creating Earth and space structures that I later import into Daz Bryce for rendering. This well written, light-hearted, and extremely thorough book is an essential asset for begineers and a valuable reference tool for anyone using SketchUp.
Computer software manual writers can often times get over zealous with methods and confuse everyone but themselves. Fortunately Aidan Chopra is not one of those people. If you want to draw most anything you can imagine you need to do two things. First download the free version of SketchUp and second buy this book. You will be very pleased with both actions.
